Most tired am I!
I was excited by the prospect of another snow day this morning. Our street looked like a skating rink.
Portland Public Schools announced that they were closed. I got an email from the woman who I work with at one of the grade schools. She confirmed that we would not have rehearsal today.
But I found out that the music center would still be holding afternoon classes. So I layered up and made my way to the bus stop.
Oh, so cranky was I! I had visions of a nice, cozy day in my pjs and slippers. Sipping hot cocoa whilst playing my piano and catching up on laundry! I fully expected most of my students not to make their lessons. After all it was a snow day!
Grumbling, I layered up and slipped on my rainboots.
The most difficult part was descending the ice coated stairs. Followed by sliding down our street.
Once I got onto the main roads, I could find patches of clear pavement. But still, my usual ten minute walk to the bus stop was about 30. It had started to rain when I got off near Starbucks. I put up my umbrella. Just then I heard a loud "thunk"! And I felt something quite large hit my umbrella. I jumped. I thought someone had thrown a rock at me!
Then I looked behind me on the sidewalk and gasped. A very large icycle had broken loose from a electric wire above and fell on top of my umbrella!
Instant reality shift. I could have been impaled! By an icycle! What a way to go!
So I took a deep breath and bought a grande Peppermint mocha.
And thanking God for sparing my life, I went to work.
And a lovely day had I! My classes were small, but I was able to give the students that did attend more individual attention. After my classes, I met with a cello teacher and his students for a short recital. I will be accompanying his students in a recital.
And that was like the cherry on top of my cupcake! Only a few students made the trip, but I had forgotten how much I enjoy accompanying students.
It made the horrendous, cold wet trip home more tolerable.
And now, in my pjs, I am grateful that I weathered the storm.
Happy Friday!
