Year Three, Day 76: Unstoppable!

Most congested am I!

Congested Face

I broke down and made an appointment to see the doctor for next week.  I have a day where several students are out on vacation. I really need to get to the bottom of this coughing stuff.  Plus, with the new grandbaby on the way, I am required to make sure I am up to date with my vaccines.  My daughter told me everyone who is close to Baby Grace must be up to date on their "TDAP" vaccine. This protects against tetanus, diptheria and pertussis (which is whooping cough).

I slept like a log last night.  A little bit of coughing, no wheezing. But I did take "Alka Seltza Nighttime Cold and Cough". It helped my sleep.

But I woke up groggy and this morning I am more congested than ever.

Sneezing, itchy eyes, dry cough.

But I am unstoppable! Especially when it comes to my hula hoop regimen!

I chugged a bottle of water with vitamin C powder in it. Grabbed my hoop and headed to the track.

It was an overcast day. Rather chilly. I headed back home and put a long sleeve shirt on.

The track was vacant when I arrived. I like it that way. I had the whole place to myself!   I got a nice little workout in. Day 42!  I can see in the video how I am breathing mostly through my mouth.

As usual, I wished I had more time, but I had to head to my office job.

I made a thermos of hot black tea mixed with ginger tea and lemon. I have heard from several students that ginger is the cure for coughs, congestion and asthma. One student's mom claims she cured her son's asthma by giving him a teaspoon of fresh grated ginger every morning.   I think I am going to put fresh ginger root on my grocery list. The tea FLAVORED with ginger is nice, but not sure if it actually has healing properties.

Aside from my nose and the cotton in my head, I am feeling good. I have been enjoying an unusual state of balance lately.  I feel like I have accomplished a lot: I have a healthy way of eating. I am losing weight slowly. But now that I am hovering around 180, I am not in a huge hurry. It was when I was hovering around 200 that I was in panic mode.

Plus, I have a workout routine I enjoy.  Hooping is fun and funky! I like funky!

However, I do need to increase my workout time. Currently I am hooping every morning for about 7 minutes, including stretching.  Would like to increase it to 10-15 minutes.

I am still walking daily. I put in about 2-3 miles a day. But this is usually with a backpack on my back, so I am going slowly.  But right now, slow is good. With my allergy thing, and during my 10-Day grain cleanse, I eased up on the weight workouts. Dr. Davis suggested taking a break from heavy workouts during the cleanse. I now see why. Even though I am making good improvements, the body sees any change as stress.  And it needs to recover.

Now would be a good time for me to do some more internal emotional work, and get back to my spiritual practice. I pray everyday, but not like I used to. I soared spiritually when I started my day early with bible study, journaling, reflection and prayer.

There it is again. Must get up earlier in the morning!

After I get through this allergy crud...

So I am taking it easy for the next few days.  At least until I receive a verdict from my doctor.  If it is just seasonal allergies, I will push forward.

After all, I am unstoppable!

On that note, I wish you a wonderful Thursday, full of peace, joy, wonder and light!

Talk to you tomorrow!

Love,

Zita

Year Three, Day 58: Marilyn Monroe's Measurements

Day 24 of daily hooping. I am determined to shrink these abs, if it is the last thing I do! Perhaps I should have that written on my tombstone: "Here lies Zita". Flat abs at last!! Well I certainly hope to attain my flat abs goal BEFORE I am dead and gone! Today's video was another rush job. But I downloaded some fun tunes to my Kindle last night.  I enjoyed my hoop session more listening to the Punjabi music. It reminded me of the "Maritime Bhangra Dancers".  If you haven't heard of them, you should look them up. They never fail to put a smile on my face! I am not smiling so much looking at this video. My hooping skills have improved a bit, but that menopot has got to go! After my hoop session, I walked 3/4 mile to the bus stop. I was planning on attending the 10:00 a.m. Mass at the Grotto, but it was cutting it close. Plus, I was feeling the need for a Starbucks iced tea.  Today was Iced Passionfruit/Black Tea, no sugar whatsoever.   The ic

Year Two, Day 274: I Like Me. RIP Packy!

Today's fruit of the spirit that I am focusing on is patience.  This I need more of. And coincidentally (or not), I read in my book Challenge: A Daily Meditation Program Based on the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius by Mark Link, S.J. the following: "I asked God to give me happiness, and God said, 'No.' He said that patience is a by-product of tribulation. It isn't granted, it is earned." Well, not to sound smug, but I am certainly earning my patience award!  :) I am having a good day, however I am a bit over caffeinated. I earned (patiently lol) a free latte today at Starbucks.  On a side note, I love being a regular customer. I walked into my regular Starbucks today, and one of the barista's yelled, "Zita!" from across the room. I felt like I was in an episode of "Cheers"! I love being recognized in a friendly manner. I had a venti "Smoked Butterscotch Latte with soy".   I have found the per

Year Four, Day 321: Pandemic Times Day 70, "Stay Home - Stay Safe" Day 57: Part I: I Need a Drink

Hi Friends:  After I posted my blog last night, I read conflicting information about the re-opening of Oregon. Yesterday, when I posted that all of Oregon was reopening, including Portland, but only stand alone retail stores, daycare and day camps for kids, I was referring to this article from the Oregonian:   https://www.oregonlive.com/coronavirus/2020/05/all-of-oregon-including-portland-can-reopen-friday-to-some-extent-questions-answered.html I had read that Governor Brown had extended Oregon's State of Emergency until July 6th. But that is different than her stay at home order. Which is in effect until "further notice". https://www.kgw.com/mobile/article/news/health/coronavirus/oregon-state-of-emergency-versus-stay-home-order-whats-the-difference/283-95a91ace-9580-40ee-a8b6-727c6bec3216 Of course, then there was the judge who said Kate Brown's restrictions were null and void: "A judge in rural Oregon tossed out statewide coronavirus restric
