Year Four, Day 1: Vegetables for Life!

So, here I am in the library. Blogging on the first day of my fourth year of this blog! Time does fly! Whether you are paying attention or not!

Progress!  Slowly, but surely.  Like a tortoise.

I am pleased with my blood pressure. I am not on any meds, except an inhaler for my asthma.  My pulse is a bit high, but I have been drinking a lot of caffeine lately. And worrying a bit.

I downloaded the "higi" app for my phone yesterday. I will keep checking into the higi station when I shop at Fred Meyers. It will log my blood pressure, pulse and weight.

I would like to lose 30 - 40 more pounds.  And I think I have the solution - more vegetables!

I am following my daughter's diet plan which consists of mostly vegetables, lean protein and a bit of yogurt and fruit. I can live with this way of eating. I actually REALLY love veggies, but don't always take the time to prep them. And fresh veggies and fruits go bad quickly, so you have to be on top of it.

I'm going to attempt to stay away from dairy, except for yogurt. I am especially going to nix carbs, fried foods, junk food, sugar, wheat.

I can do this!

I am feeling very positive about life again.

A new plan helps. And time with my daughter and Gracie boosted me up higher!  We met this morning at Starbucks so I could watch Baby Gracie while she got some work done.

It was a gorgeous day. We met at the Cascade Station Starbucks. One of my favorites. Especially on a nice day. We sat outside with our iced tea. My daughter got out her computer. Gracie was asleep in her stroller. So I got out my snack.  A small container of Greek yogurt mixed with seasonings, and a bag of raw veggies: Carrots, broccoli and cauliflower. My daughter was rummaging in her bag. She looked up at me as she put her snack on the table.

Greek yogurt and veggies.

We busted out laughing.

The baby woke up.  But she was happy!

Aside from veggies, my focus this year is on God and family.  More of both.

Not a new concept, but I was inspired by the blog my daughter wrote for the newsletter for the teen suicide hotline she works for.  Her pastor, years ago ran into an elderly gentleman, "James". As they were reflecting on life, James turned to the pastor and told him he had two regrets in life:  One, that he did not spend enough time with his family, and second that he did not spend enough time with God.

My daughter's pastor never forgot these words and often weaves them into his sermons.

And now, I am put these words into my focus for Year 4 of my blog:

1. More time with God in prayer, studying scripture and attending church.
2. More time with family.
3. More veggies.
4. More water.
5. More exercise.
6. Less escapism activities, like television, internet, binge eating, lottery, worrying.
7.  More music.

I think that about says it!

Except, I just got a phone call from my son.  A positive call.  It's a good day!

Happy Monday!

Talk to you tomorrow!

Love,

Zita

p.s. I am still going strong with my daily hooping. Here is a video of  Day 317:

Year Three, Day 58: Marilyn Monroe's Measurements

Day 24 of daily hooping. I am determined to shrink these abs, if it is the last thing I do! Perhaps I should have that written on my tombstone: "Here lies Zita". Flat abs at last!! Well I certainly hope to attain my flat abs goal BEFORE I am dead and gone! Today's video was another rush job. But I downloaded some fun tunes to my Kindle last night.  I enjoyed my hoop session more listening to the Punjabi music. It reminded me of the "Maritime Bhangra Dancers".  If you haven't heard of them, you should look them up. They never fail to put a smile on my face! I am not smiling so much looking at this video. My hooping skills have improved a bit, but that menopot has got to go! After my hoop session, I walked 3/4 mile to the bus stop. I was planning on attending the 10:00 a.m. Mass at the Grotto, but it was cutting it close. Plus, I was feeling the need for a Starbucks iced tea.  Today was Iced Passionfruit/Black Tea, no sugar whatsoever.   The ic

Year Two, Day 274: I Like Me. RIP Packy!

Today's fruit of the spirit that I am focusing on is patience.  This I need more of. And coincidentally (or not), I read in my book Challenge: A Daily Meditation Program Based on the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius by Mark Link, S.J. the following: "I asked God to give me happiness, and God said, 'No.' He said that patience is a by-product of tribulation. It isn't granted, it is earned." Well, not to sound smug, but I am certainly earning my patience award!  :) I am having a good day, however I am a bit over caffeinated. I earned (patiently lol) a free latte today at Starbucks.  On a side note, I love being a regular customer. I walked into my regular Starbucks today, and one of the barista's yelled, "Zita!" from across the room. I felt like I was in an episode of "Cheers"! I love being recognized in a friendly manner. I had a venti "Smoked Butterscotch Latte with soy".   I have found the per

Year Four, Day 321: Pandemic Times Day 70, "Stay Home - Stay Safe" Day 57: Part I: I Need a Drink

Hi Friends:  After I posted my blog last night, I read conflicting information about the re-opening of Oregon. Yesterday, when I posted that all of Oregon was reopening, including Portland, but only stand alone retail stores, daycare and day camps for kids, I was referring to this article from the Oregonian:   https://www.oregonlive.com/coronavirus/2020/05/all-of-oregon-including-portland-can-reopen-friday-to-some-extent-questions-answered.html I had read that Governor Brown had extended Oregon's State of Emergency until July 6th. But that is different than her stay at home order. Which is in effect until "further notice". https://www.kgw.com/mobile/article/news/health/coronavirus/oregon-state-of-emergency-versus-stay-home-order-whats-the-difference/283-95a91ace-9580-40ee-a8b6-727c6bec3216 Of course, then there was the judge who said Kate Brown's restrictions were null and void: "A judge in rural Oregon tossed out statewide coronavirus restric
