Year Three, Day 354: Tackling My Dehydration

I felt very honored to travel with a police dog at my side on the Max this morning! I think they were involved in K-9 training. I had I found a seat on the train and gotten comfortable, looking forward to seeing my daughter and granddaughter. Suddenly a whole group of police men, women and dog boarded.

"Police dog boarding!" Boomed one of the male cops in a loud, powerful voice. Several people jumped, looking up from their cell phones in alarm as a beautiful, chocolate German Shorthair Pointer sniffed the floor and backpacks and feet of every passenger. Then he sat at attention on the stairs by my seet.

I was most impressed. When I transferred to the Airport Max at the Gateway Transit center, another K-9 unit boarded with me. This time the dig was a black lab.

It made for an interesting ride!

I then proceeded to my daughter's home where I  had some precious moments with my granddaughter.

I also had a fabulous hoop session.

I slept better last night.  I must admit, I am an internet junkie. I find it hard to go to bed without my cell phone in hand, playing Words with Friends (still trying to beat my rascally son-in-law!), checking email, and perusing Facebook.

But this late night internet activity "wakes up" my brain. I have trouble falling asleep, toss and turn and then feel like death warmed over in the morning.

Last  night I unplugged.  I still tossed and turned a bit. It was still difficult getting up. But not as bad as usual.  I was eager to see  my granddaughter, which provided  me motivation. And by the time I got outside to do my morning hoop workout, I was feeling quite chipper!

I had a reward on my Starbucks card. So I stopped and got a lightly sweetened frappecino with almond milk.

I had a fantastic morning with Gracie.  But when she put her sweet little head on my shoulder for her  mid morning nap, I felt that "POOF" feeling coming on. (If perchance you did not read my post yesterday,  "POOF" is an acronym for Pass Out on Floor.

I had to pinch myself to stay conscious. I thought about putting the baby in her crib for her nap, but she was so sweet on my shoulder. Plus, chances are, if I put her down, she would wake back up and frankly I was too exhausted to take that chance!

When my daughter came home, we visited, had a little lunch and then went for a walk. We discussed the POOF phenomenon. She lectured me, as usual, on my state of dehydration.

She has been telling me for years that I do not drink enough water.

Well, now that I am nearly beginning my fourth year of the blog of self improvement, I believe it is time to tackle my dehydration, once and for all!

Starting today, I am tracking how many glasses of water I drink.

So far today I have had 3.  About 8 ounces each.  I cannot count the coffee and iced tea.  I am doing some research on what the ideal amount per day is. I am aiming for 8 glasses a day.

But I must end here. I have students to teach and water to drink before I POOF!

Talk to you tomorrow!

Love,

Zita

Year Three, Day 58: Marilyn Monroe's Measurements

Day 24 of daily hooping. I am determined to shrink these abs, if it is the last thing I do! Perhaps I should have that written on my tombstone: "Here lies Zita". Flat abs at last!! Well I certainly hope to attain my flat abs goal BEFORE I am dead and gone! Today's video was another rush job. But I downloaded some fun tunes to my Kindle last night.  I enjoyed my hoop session more listening to the Punjabi music. It reminded me of the "Maritime Bhangra Dancers".  If you haven't heard of them, you should look them up. They never fail to put a smile on my face! I am not smiling so much looking at this video. My hooping skills have improved a bit, but that menopot has got to go! After my hoop session, I walked 3/4 mile to the bus stop. I was planning on attending the 10:00 a.m. Mass at the Grotto, but it was cutting it close. Plus, I was feeling the need for a Starbucks iced tea.  Today was Iced Passionfruit/Black Tea, no sugar whatsoever.   The ic

Year Two, Day 274: I Like Me. RIP Packy!

Today's fruit of the spirit that I am focusing on is patience.  This I need more of. And coincidentally (or not), I read in my book Challenge: A Daily Meditation Program Based on the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius by Mark Link, S.J. the following: "I asked God to give me happiness, and God said, 'No.' He said that patience is a by-product of tribulation. It isn't granted, it is earned." Well, not to sound smug, but I am certainly earning my patience award!  :) I am having a good day, however I am a bit over caffeinated. I earned (patiently lol) a free latte today at Starbucks.  On a side note, I love being a regular customer. I walked into my regular Starbucks today, and one of the barista's yelled, "Zita!" from across the room. I felt like I was in an episode of "Cheers"! I love being recognized in a friendly manner. I had a venti "Smoked Butterscotch Latte with soy".   I have found the per

Year Four, Day 321: Pandemic Times Day 70, "Stay Home - Stay Safe" Day 57: Part I: I Need a Drink

Hi Friends:  After I posted my blog last night, I read conflicting information about the re-opening of Oregon. Yesterday, when I posted that all of Oregon was reopening, including Portland, but only stand alone retail stores, daycare and day camps for kids, I was referring to this article from the Oregonian:   https://www.oregonlive.com/coronavirus/2020/05/all-of-oregon-including-portland-can-reopen-friday-to-some-extent-questions-answered.html I had read that Governor Brown had extended Oregon's State of Emergency until July 6th. But that is different than her stay at home order. Which is in effect until "further notice". https://www.kgw.com/mobile/article/news/health/coronavirus/oregon-state-of-emergency-versus-stay-home-order-whats-the-difference/283-95a91ace-9580-40ee-a8b6-727c6bec3216 Of course, then there was the judge who said Kate Brown's restrictions were null and void: "A judge in rural Oregon tossed out statewide coronavirus restric
