Year Four, Day 90: Catching Up and a Sneak Preview...

Hello!

It has been awhile.  I just have a few moments before I head off to choir practice. In a winter storm. Snow is forecast. The skies are slate gray. And that wind! It chills to the very bone.

I am very skeptical about the weather forecast.  We have had so many false alarms - schools closed or opening late, with hardly a dusting of snow on the ground.

But I should have been more cautious today. I have been wearing two layers of pants, and two to three layers of tops. Plus gloves, a hat a scarf, winter coat, wool socks and boot cuffs.

Today I only wore one top. And I am deeply sorry.  The library where I hang out and blog has a box. It says, "Are you in need of something to keep warm?" And encourages folks to help themselves. In the picture below, the hat on top is one of my own hand knitted creations! I am so happy to come each week and see that they have been taken. Maybe someday I'll see one of my hats on a real live head of a stranger!

I am keeping hats in my bag with me to hand out to homeless and otherwise cold people.  And to leave at the library. It makes me feel like I am doing something good in this world!

The cold person box at the Belmont Library. That's my hand-knitted cap on top!

More of my recent creations.

But today I partook of the box. I was looking for a scarf or sweater.  But someone had left a small blanket.  I am beyond pride at this point. I took the blanket. And I will wrap myself up in it as I brave the elements!

I would like to sit here and catch you up on my life, but time has gotten ahead of me. It tends to do that.

I hope to get back to daily blogging for my sanity.  Really. It helps.

But to give you a sneak preview:

  • I am still knitting hats on the bus, but I have also added macrame bracelets.  In honor of Sister Zita from St. Mary of the Valley Girls Academy.  Where I attended in the 8th grade. Sister Zita was 94 years old at the time. I took her macrame class. But never finished a project. Until now.
  • I am also studying traditional Irish music. I have found it sounds hauntingly lovely on the portative organ!
  • I recently read a fascinating novel called The Translator by Leila Aboulela. I was transported into this young woman's life.  A Muslim woman.  This is a story that will stay with me for a long time.
  • I have begun another book, this one nonfiction: Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann.  I became interested in the Osage tribe after watching the Little House on the Prairie pilot episode with my granddaughter. About 50 times and counting.  She and I both love the scene where Sodat du Chene, an Osage chief visits the Ingalls family.  I have just begun reading this book, but am already captivated!
  • My cough is still lingering, but I am sleeping better.  My diet is so-so, but I am aware of everything that goes in my mouth. And I have managed to stay away from McDonald's burgers for nearly a month now!

To be continued...soon!

Love,

Zita

Year Three, Day 58: Marilyn Monroe's Measurements

Day 24 of daily hooping. I am determined to shrink these abs, if it is the last thing I do! Perhaps I should have that written on my tombstone: "Here lies Zita". Flat abs at last!! Well I certainly hope to attain my flat abs goal BEFORE I am dead and gone! Today's video was another rush job. But I downloaded some fun tunes to my Kindle last night.  I enjoyed my hoop session more listening to the Punjabi music. It reminded me of the "Maritime Bhangra Dancers".  If you haven't heard of them, you should look them up. They never fail to put a smile on my face! I am not smiling so much looking at this video. My hooping skills have improved a bit, but that menopot has got to go! After my hoop session, I walked 3/4 mile to the bus stop. I was planning on attending the 10:00 a.m. Mass at the Grotto, but it was cutting it close. Plus, I was feeling the need for a Starbucks iced tea.  Today was Iced Passionfruit/Black Tea, no sugar whatsoever.   The ic...

Year Two, Day 274: I Like Me. RIP Packy!

Today's fruit of the spirit that I am focusing on is patience.  This I need more of. And coincidentally (or not), I read in my book Challenge: A Daily Meditation Program Based on the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius by Mark Link, S.J. the following: "I asked God to give me happiness, and God said, 'No.' He said that patience is a by-product of tribulation. It isn't granted, it is earned." Well, not to sound smug, but I am certainly earning my patience award!  :) I am having a good day, however I am a bit over caffeinated. I earned (patiently lol) a free latte today at Starbucks.  On a side note, I love being a regular customer. I walked into my regular Starbucks today, and one of the barista's yelled, "Zita!" from across the room. I felt like I was in an episode of "Cheers"! I love being recognized in a friendly manner. I had a venti "Smoked Butterscotch Latte with soy".   I have found the per...

Year Two, Day 201: "I"

Before my first meeting with "I" I had a wonderful first date last night! We had a lot on common. The conversation flowed easily. We laughed. It was so lovely, that I think I shall not blog about him. Not yet anyway. I am just going to call him "I". I like I. 😉 Today was a long, wonderful family day. Went to church with my daughter and son-in-law. Very powerful, uplifting service. After that we went to the horse races. Had a blast. Broke even. Essentially had a free lunch and four hours of entertainment. After the horses, we had yet another Thanksgiving dinner at my niece's place. It was her first turkey. It was amazing! But thank God I had enough willpower to resist the pie! Tomorrow I go for my first physical therapy appointment. Tuesday it is back to the gym!! Happy Sunday!
