Day 29/Day 1 IF: Yogurt, Kombucha and Kimchi, Oh My! :)

29 Days! That is nearly ONE WHOLE MONTH! (Well if it was February and leap year, it would be!)

Today is the first day of the rest of my life!  I love saying that! :) I feel really good this morning. However, I did NOT get up and run at the crack of dawn as I had planned. Last night was gruesomely hot and humid. I woke up at 1 a.m. and sat on the porch drinking ice water and then read.

But I haven't eaten since 4:00 p.m. yesterday. So I completed a 16 hour fast! And I feel wonderful!  I am having some hunger pangs, but they feel good! I feel alive!  And better yet, I do not feel bloated and foggy! Do you like all the exclamation points?! :)

My daughter scolds me for using too many exclamation points and smiley faces! :)

My revised plan is to eat a bit of yogurt and fruit and then go to the trail from 10:30 to 11:30.
Update:  Just ate about 1/2 cup greek yogurt (Tillamook "Coffeehouse Blend"), 3 cherries and a sip of  Kombucha tea (Fred Meyer's Organics "Mango Mint").  I BELIEVE in the power of probiotics! Which reminds me, I need to pick up some kimchi later! :) Are you familiar with kimchi? It's an acquired taste, but we love it here. I have a sensitive gut. Never been diagnosed but suspect Irritable Bowel Syndrome. So kimchi, yogurt and kombucha tea are my friends!

"Kimchi contains the bacterium called lactobacillus kimchii as well as other lactic acid bacteria that are beneficial to our gastrointestinal as well as immune systems. A typical kimchi made with Chinese cabbage, carrot, garlic, ginger, onion and pepper is also high in vitamin A, C, B1, B2, beta-carotene, calcium and iron. Animal studies also suggested that kimchi may be effective against the avian flu virus." (http://theconsciouslife.com/top-probiotic-foods.htm)

I actually do not feel like eating much. I need some energy for my trail run, but I like this light feeling.  We will see how I feel after my run (I call it a run now, but it is still a lot of fast walking...a work in progress!)

I am making a fish and veggie casserole for dinner. I'll get that started before my run so I don't heat the house up too much. It's going to be another hot one!

For lunch, I might go back to the terriyaki place I went to yesterday. They substitute brown rice for white rice on request. They have a nice spicy chicken, rice and salad dish. It's a big portion, but as you can see, it satisfied me for 16 hours and my belly is flatter!! Actually, I think I will do a spicy chicken bowl with brown rice. A little smaller portion. The "salad" was just iceberg lettuce - yummy dressing, but tasted sweet. I don't really need that.

I will also eat some fresh veggies.

Today I need to record some piano music for some customers and start to practice for my next performances.  I teach this afternoon, but since we had our performance Sunday, there is no choir practice tonight.

Progress is so exciting!!!

Happy Tuesday!

:)

Update: 1:15 p.m. Fish casserole is in the oven. Smells divine. My hunger pangs started increasing enough to start carb cravings. So I had a light lunch. I made a salad of fresh spinach, 1 stick diced celery, 1 turnip diced, 1/2 cup tuna, a splash of rice vinegar and some freshly ground black pepper. And more ice water. Can't get enough ice water lately!

I plan on eating a bit of fish casserole and then head out to teach some students. A very light work day. Since there is no choir practice, I am going to have dinner at Laughing Planet...they have nice bowls -brown rice, veggies and chicken.  Then no food until tomorrow!  Tomorrow is Wednesday. Salem day.  I plan on getting up early to hit the trail and eat some yogurt. Then in Salem I will go to this little Mexican deli I like and have a chicken taco (corn tortilla -still trying to avoid wheat) and some fresh fruit. Then Back/biceps weighlifting at the gym before my bible study ladies pick me up. After my students, I will grab something healthy before heading back to Portland.

I think I should reasonably make 7:00 p.m. my cut off time for eating because of my schedule. So no food after 7:00 p.m. Just water and herbal tea. I can eat again after 7:00 a.m. That is a good 12 hour fast.  I love experimenting, especially when I am the subject!

Year Three, Day 58: Marilyn Monroe's Measurements

Day 24 of daily hooping. I am determined to shrink these abs, if it is the last thing I do! Perhaps I should have that written on my tombstone: "Here lies Zita". Flat abs at last!! Well I certainly hope to attain my flat abs goal BEFORE I am dead and gone! Today's video was another rush job. But I downloaded some fun tunes to my Kindle last night.  I enjoyed my hoop session more listening to the Punjabi music. It reminded me of the "Maritime Bhangra Dancers".  If you haven't heard of them, you should look them up. They never fail to put a smile on my face! I am not smiling so much looking at this video. My hooping skills have improved a bit, but that menopot has got to go! After my hoop session, I walked 3/4 mile to the bus stop. I was planning on attending the 10:00 a.m. Mass at the Grotto, but it was cutting it close. Plus, I was feeling the need for a Starbucks iced tea.  Today was Iced Passionfruit/Black Tea, no sugar whatsoever.   The ic...

Year Two, Day 274: I Like Me. RIP Packy!

Today's fruit of the spirit that I am focusing on is patience.  This I need more of. And coincidentally (or not), I read in my book Challenge: A Daily Meditation Program Based on the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius by Mark Link, S.J. the following: "I asked God to give me happiness, and God said, 'No.' He said that patience is a by-product of tribulation. It isn't granted, it is earned." Well, not to sound smug, but I am certainly earning my patience award!  :) I am having a good day, however I am a bit over caffeinated. I earned (patiently lol) a free latte today at Starbucks.  On a side note, I love being a regular customer. I walked into my regular Starbucks today, and one of the barista's yelled, "Zita!" from across the room. I felt like I was in an episode of "Cheers"! I love being recognized in a friendly manner. I had a venti "Smoked Butterscotch Latte with soy".   I have found the per...

Year Three, Day 110: I Like Change, But How Do I Help the Suffering?

I woke up in a bit of a panic this morning. I had planned on getting to the track by 6:30 a.m., because I thought today was the first day of school. You see, the public is not allowed to use the track when school is in session. Understandably so. But alas, I overslept! I still headed out with my hoop, hoping it was before school hours at 7:30 a.m. And I breathed a sigh of relief. The school looked vacant. And only one solitary jogger with her solitary dog was present. I got busy in case the kids were due to arrive. Got a nice hoop workout in. No sign of children as I walked back to the house. So I did what I should have done in advance. I consulted Google. And most happy am I - North Clackamas School District does not start back to school until September 6th! Portland Public Schools start today. But the elementary school next door to the track lists "student hours" as 7:45 - 2:00 p.m. So I really am going to have to get an earlier start next week. I am aiming...
