Year Two, Day 196: A Gentleman!

First of all, my humble apologies for not giving you an update last night.  "S" called after I left the gym, on my way to meet him and told me he had an urgent matter to attend to at home. He thought he might be able to sort it out and meet me a little later. I told him not to worry. I, after all, had family with "urgent matters" coming up on occasion. I told him I had some work to do at the FedX store and he was welcome to call me later.

I was a bit disappointed. After all, I was having a good hair day. And a good face day too - my eyes were way less poofy than normal!

However, I just got this deep feeling of authenticity from S.  And I decided to just go with that.

I did some work at the FedX store. Mailed a letter and stopped at Fred Meyer for some groceries.  I was really hungry at this point, but I resisted the urge to by junk food or stop at a fast food restaurant. See? Progress! :)

I arrived home and made a healthy dinner. Had some peppermint tea. Checked out my addictions (Facebook and Words with Friends). But then checked myself, got up and did a load of laundry.  It was about 7:00 p.m. Two hours after I was to have met with S.

At about 7:15 he called and said he could come down my way and meet. But you know what? I was sleepy. I had laundry to finish.  It was dark outside.  I told him I really wanted to meet him, but I was probably in for the night.

He apologized again for having to change plans and asked if we could meet tomorrow morning.

And so we did! I went for a light gym workout and then met him at 11:00 a.m. at a little dive restaurant up the street. In my workout clothes.  My eyes just a tad poofier than last night.

I got there at 11:00, he walked in at 11:01.

He looked just like his pictures.

And we had a very pleasant first meeting.  He looked in my eyes. Listened to me. Smiled.  Even held my hand (I tend to reveal a lot about myself at first meetings...sigh).  But it felt good to be accepted for who I am.

And he was very down to earth. Very real.  Nice smile.

:)

I had ordered tea and a small side salad. He just had water. I am noticing this is a trend with first meetings off of the dating sites.  I was ok with it. When the waitress brought the check, I grabbed it an paid.

We didn't say anything. But he did grab my hand shortly afterward and say he really enjoyed meeting me and could he ask me if I would like to go on a date with him soon?

I said yes.

Then he actually HELPED ME ON WITH MY COAT!  I capitalized those words on purpose. I cannot remember when a man has done that.

Then he offered me his arm. We walked out. He held the door open for me.  He gave me a hug and again said he wanted to spend more time with me. Then he walked me to the bus stop.  Called the bus transit tracker for the next arrival. Hugged me again. And tipped his hat to me.

He started to walk down the street (He lives very close to the restaurant). After a few yards, he turned around, smiled and waved.

There are gentlemen in Portland!

I found one!

And I am still smiling. :) (See?!)

Happy Monday!

Year Four, Day 328: Success at Last!! This is What I Do

Hello My Long Lost Friends! Or, perhaps it was I who was lost? And now I think I am beginning to find myself!  Under layers of fat, and self loathing!  How's that for an opening line!  Or perhaps the title of a novel:  Layers of Fat and Self-Loathing! Today I stepped on the scale.  I am weighing myself every morning these days. I was shocked! I told my partner the scale must be broken!  Yesterday I weight 186. Today 185! I have been on a strict intermittent fast for the past 10 weeks. I have officially lost 12 pounds!  And the best news is I think I not only can stick to this way of eating, I am actually beginning to really enjoy it!  And look how far I've come! I've been writing since May 12, 2015.  Over 8 years now!  I know this blog post says Year Four, Day 328, but there have been many pauses in blogging. For instance, when I am not pleased with progress or simply have no words! I was 53 when I first began blogging. I am now 61. I honestly feel better than I did 8 years

Year Four, Day 335: "Crisis Fatigue"

Hello Friends! I have missed you! I have been so utterly exhausted and downright depressed, that I couldn't summon enough energy to even lift my fingers to this computer keyboard to write.  Apparently there is a mental disorder for people going through crises.  Crises such as pandemics, systemic racism, political division, unemployment, police brutality, civil unrest.... It's called "crisis fatigue". When humans are presented with a threat, adrenaline is released to give us quick energy. This is called the "fight or flight syndrome". But when threats are overwhelming, and perceivably continuous, like this year, it overwhelms the system. People can feel numb, depressed, anxious and irritable. Yup. That's me.  I guess I'm quite normal after all! I found an interesting article that describes crisis fatigue, especially in relation to current events.  But it doesn't really address how to take care of ourselves during these unsettling times!

Year Four, Day 247: What Happened in Vegas...

Expectations can be brutal. Especially when reality dashes them against the rocky shores of our souls. How's that for an opening line? I was so excited about my recent trip to Las Vegas.  I haven't travelled anywhere in so long. I do believe I have been bit by the travel bug.  I want the freedom to go places I have never been, see things I have never seen and experience life as a stellar adventure! My kids are young adults with families of their own.  I have my role as Zma, as Teacher Zita. But I am on a quest to find Zita. She's hidden someone deep inside. Covered in layers. Like an onion. I like the onion analogy. Notice the outermost layer of an onion - dry  and papery. As you peel off layers, the inside is juicy and sweet. I have paid my dues of sacrifice, shame and self deprivation.  What I want now is to embrace the life I have remaining. Have you seen the life pie chart? I don't know where I read this, but it stuck with me.  Draw a circle.  And then divide it i
