I am so happy!
I am sitting in the Fort Vancouver Library downtown Vancouver. It is Sunday at 3:52 p.m. The weather is glorious. And this library is simply amazing! Not only is it brand new, gigantic and clean, it is open M-Th 9-8 and F-Su 10-6. Even better hours then Multnomah county!
On a whim I called the library yesterday. I told the friendly lady on the phone that I had recently moved back to Vancouver, but had not taken the time to get my Washington driver's license. I asked her if I could get a library card.
"Of course!", she gushed quite enthusiastically. "Just bring your I.D. and mail that proves your residency.
That I did. And here I am, grinning like the Cheshire Cat!
I love libraries!
I grew up in Vancouver. Some of the happiest moments in my life were at the old library. I spent most of my summer going to and from the library, with a stack of books.
I would have gotten my degree in Library Science rather than music, if it had not been for my nervous stomach. I would get quite ill walking into libraries and bookstores. I still do if I don't work on my breathing mindfully.
I get so excited at the mere thought of all these books at hand! And now, there are DVD's and computers. And I can put items on hold!
Did I mention that I am so happy?
I am!
I am!
I am starting to feel more at home in Vancouver. I still love Portland - the diversity, and culture. But not so much the traffic, exorbitant rent, and dirty streets.
It is quieter here. There is a surprisingly large number of homeless, but I think that is in Every City, U.S.A. anymore.
I am glad that I don't have to commute all the way to Portland now to get my library fix. Especially now that I will be having some time off for spring break.
I am still in the spring cleaning mode. And Tai Chi and hooping mode! Today is day 16 of my return to daily hooping. I started the morning with a short Tai Chi workout - there is so much to learn, I am still getting the basics down. But the breathing and posture alone have been most beneficial.
My daughter and her family are back from vacation. I impressed her and my granddaughter this afternoon with my homemade tortillas. I am quite proud of them. I haven't gotten my tortilla press yet from Amazon, so I used my makeshift cardboard and plastic baggy.
And they still turned out quite yummy!
I would talk more, but all these books are here calling my name.
Happy Sunday!
Talk to you tomorrow.
Love,
Zita
