Day 6: II

Sunday, May 16, 2015:  204 pounds

After my rough start this morning, I am having a good day!

My plan is to post my weight every Sunday.  I think part of my bad mood was that I didn't lose a pound this week!  But I seem to have lost a chin! That, I am happy about! :)

Plus my clothes are fitting better and my workouts are getting slightly easier.

AND I found a lovely church to worship at in the neighborhood. So close, that I can walk!  I have been trying new churches since I moved back to Portland a few weeks ago.  Today I went for the second Sunday to "The Bridge".  (www.thebridgecdo.org )

It is a small congregation, but the music is heartfelt and moving. The pastor is dynamic and friendly. The congregation, warm and welcoming. I like it there!

When I walked in today, they were singing  "Never Let Go".

The lyrics hit me hard today. Here they are:

You Never Let GO" is track #4 on the album Sing Like Never Before: The Essential Collection. It was written by Matt Redman;beth Redman.

"Even though I walk through the valley
Of the shadow of death
Your perfect love is casting out fear
And even when Im caught in the middle
Of the storms of this life
I wont turn back, I know You are near
And I will fear no evil
For my God is with me
And if my God is with me
Whom then shall I fear?
Whom then shall I fear?
Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me
And I can see a light that is coming
For the heart that holds on
A glorious light beyond all compare
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
Well live to know You here on the earth
And I will fear no evil
For my God is with me
And if my God is with me
Whom then shall I fear?
Whom then shall I fear?
Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me
You keep on loving
And You never let go
Singing
Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me
Yes, I can see a light that is coming
For the heart that holds on
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
Still I will praise You, still I will praise You
I can see the light
Yes, I can see a light that is coming
For the heart that holds on
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
Still I will praise You, still I will praise You
Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me
So strong
So wise
So loving Lord
Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me
Oh, Lord, You never let go of me".

I left worship feeling refreshed and renewed.

I am going to continue with my workout plan this week. My goal is to push forward with more jogging and running.  And more reps with heavier weights at the gym.  I'm really not sore today. I mean, I hurt every day from life. From stress. From carrying too much weight.  My neck has hurt for at least 30 years!  I'm actually less sore today.  That, my friends is worth this effort!

But I'm going to raise the bar this week and focus on my eating. Overall, I eat pretty healthy.  A lot of vegetables, lean protein, whole grains, legumes, yogurt, lowfat cottage cheese. I'm trying to avoid processed sugar, white flour, junk food and fast food. But what I need to work on is portion control.

SMALL PORTIONS = SMALLER BELLY (We hope!)

Today I made roasted root vegetables with chicken sausage. Reaaaallllly yummy! I found the recipe on  Kayotickitchen.com. It's called "Lazy Sunday Casserole". And oila! Here is the recipe!!

On another note, in breaking news there has been a shootout between rival biker gangs at Twin Peaks Restaurant in Waco, Texas. Last report was 9 dead.  Story here:

I was born in Waco. My mother has a lot of family in the surrounding area. I just messaged them on Facebook and they are all safe, but shaken up.  The Waco PD are asking people not to come near the area in case more gang members come to seek retaliation. My prayers are with all the victims, the Waco Police Department and for continued safety of my family and the whole community.

Peace,

Zita

Year Four, Day 328: Success at Last!! This is What I Do

Hello My Long Lost Friends! Or, perhaps it was I who was lost? And now I think I am beginning to find myself!  Under layers of fat, and self loathing!  How's that for an opening line!  Or perhaps the title of a novel:  Layers of Fat and Self-Loathing! Today I stepped on the scale.  I am weighing myself every morning these days. I was shocked! I told my partner the scale must be broken!  Yesterday I weight 186. Today 185! I have been on a strict intermittent fast for the past 10 weeks. I have officially lost 12 pounds!  And the best news is I think I not only can stick to this way of eating, I am actually beginning to really enjoy it!  And look how far I've come! I've been writing since May 12, 2015.  Over 8 years now!  I know this blog post says Year Four, Day 328, but there have been many pauses in blogging. For instance, when I am not pleased with progress or simply have no words! I was 53 when I first began blogging. I am now 61. I honestly feel better than I did 8 years

Year Four, Day 335: "Crisis Fatigue"

Hello Friends! I have missed you! I have been so utterly exhausted and downright depressed, that I couldn't summon enough energy to even lift my fingers to this computer keyboard to write.  Apparently there is a mental disorder for people going through crises.  Crises such as pandemics, systemic racism, political division, unemployment, police brutality, civil unrest.... It's called "crisis fatigue". When humans are presented with a threat, adrenaline is released to give us quick energy. This is called the "fight or flight syndrome". But when threats are overwhelming, and perceivably continuous, like this year, it overwhelms the system. People can feel numb, depressed, anxious and irritable. Yup. That's me.  I guess I'm quite normal after all! I found an interesting article that describes crisis fatigue, especially in relation to current events.  But it doesn't really address how to take care of ourselves during these unsettling times!

Year Four, Day 247: What Happened in Vegas...

Expectations can be brutal. Especially when reality dashes them against the rocky shores of our souls. How's that for an opening line? I was so excited about my recent trip to Las Vegas.  I haven't travelled anywhere in so long. I do believe I have been bit by the travel bug.  I want the freedom to go places I have never been, see things I have never seen and experience life as a stellar adventure! My kids are young adults with families of their own.  I have my role as Zma, as Teacher Zita. But I am on a quest to find Zita. She's hidden someone deep inside. Covered in layers. Like an onion. I like the onion analogy. Notice the outermost layer of an onion - dry  and papery. As you peel off layers, the inside is juicy and sweet. I have paid my dues of sacrifice, shame and self deprivation.  What I want now is to embrace the life I have remaining. Have you seen the life pie chart? I don't know where I read this, but it stuck with me.  Draw a circle.  And then divide it i
