Year Two, Day 259: No Coincidences! :)

I LOVE my new job!

And for your information, I got it wrong. I am not a church secretary. I am an "Administrative Assistant!"

Zita, Administrative Assistant

I was alone again today. I absolutely love having my own little desk, being there to greet people and have little projects. Today I worked on the bulletin with the pastor's help. She was at a meeting downtown, but available for questions via Google chat.

Just think, I would be just barely crawling out of bed at home when I am already at my desk, full of coffee and ready for the day!  I was worried that the extra time on the job would zap me, but instead I am finding it energizes me!

I think I like a challenge.  This morning I actually popped right up, made tea and my lunch, did the dishes, sat down and wrote in my prayer journal and did a little bible study before putting on my eyebrows and heading out the door.

I caught all of my buses in time and even had time for a little reflective latte sipping at the Starbucks around the corner from the bus stop.

I caught my favorite new bus driver's bus. And she dropped me off at the stop in front of the church 15 minutes before my shift began.

I met some more people today, including a woman that volunteers for a veteran's organization that rents space in the church.

I am making so many new friends!

I like my bus route - It is a breeze because one bus is the #72, which travels along SE 82nd. I've never waited more than 12 minutes for that bus.  I think I am going to look for a small apartment for my son and I near the church.  I have a good vibe about the neighborhood. And it would make sense to live close, since it is the first place I start in the morning.

And coincidentally, the stores my son merchandises are all in the vicinity too!

I'd like to share more, but I have yet another bus to catch to my first afternoon student.

I am wondering also if I am feeling unusually cheerful is my refraining from social media. I just check in to Facebook on the bus. I am avoiding posting anything political.  I read a bit, my heart races and then I file it in the back of my mind to research later.

I am also greatly enjoying my Lysa TerKeurst bible study ("Finding I Am: How Jesus Fully Satisfies the Cry of Your Heart") Coincidentally, (or not!), after I posted about abstaining from social media and things that separate me from God, I read in her book about fasting!

And today I have a "bible reading of the day" email. Today's scripture was
Exodus 3:14
"14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you"

OK. I really don't believe in coincidences.

More tomorrow...

OH, I almost forgot. Today I added another "fruit of the spirit" to ponder on.  Patience.

So, as I walk, if my thoughts turn downward, I think about the four fruits of the spirit I am developing:

  1. Love
  2. Joy
  3. Peace
  4. Patience.
SO I wish you Love, Joy, Peace and Patience!

Happy Wednesday!

Zita

Year Four, Day 328: Success at Last!! This is What I Do

Hello My Long Lost Friends! Or, perhaps it was I who was lost? And now I think I am beginning to find myself!  Under layers of fat, and self loathing!  How's that for an opening line!  Or perhaps the title of a novel:  Layers of Fat and Self-Loathing! Today I stepped on the scale.  I am weighing myself every morning these days. I was shocked! I told my partner the scale must be broken!  Yesterday I weight 186. Today 185! I have been on a strict intermittent fast for the past 10 weeks. I have officially lost 12 pounds!  And the best news is I think I not only can stick to this way of eating, I am actually beginning to really enjoy it!  And look how far I've come! I've been writing since May 12, 2015.  Over 8 years now!  I know this blog post says Year Four, Day 328, but there have been many pauses in blogging. For instance, when I am not pleased with progress or simply have no words! I was 53 when I first began blogging. I am now 61. I honestly feel better than I did 8 years

Year Four, Day 335: "Crisis Fatigue"

Hello Friends! I have missed you! I have been so utterly exhausted and downright depressed, that I couldn't summon enough energy to even lift my fingers to this computer keyboard to write.  Apparently there is a mental disorder for people going through crises.  Crises such as pandemics, systemic racism, political division, unemployment, police brutality, civil unrest.... It's called "crisis fatigue". When humans are presented with a threat, adrenaline is released to give us quick energy. This is called the "fight or flight syndrome". But when threats are overwhelming, and perceivably continuous, like this year, it overwhelms the system. People can feel numb, depressed, anxious and irritable. Yup. That's me.  I guess I'm quite normal after all! I found an interesting article that describes crisis fatigue, especially in relation to current events.  But it doesn't really address how to take care of ourselves during these unsettling times!

Year Two, Day 313: Most Excited Am I!

I almost started today's blog with my standard, "Most tired am I" And I am. So tired. And ready for spring.  But tonight when I got home, my wonderful housemate told me that I had a package waiting for me on the counter.  So I ran in and found the book I had been waiting for: Open Mind, Open Heart , by Thomas Keating. Most excited am I! I put a bag of popcorn in the microwave, filled my water and was heading downstairs to open my new book - but I had to detour around the cat who had just killed and attempted to eat a spider. Good kitty! :) I ordered this book the day that I was inspired to turn my introversion into a positive. To use it as a stepping stone to a deeper relationship with God. To go up to the next level in my spiritual path. Thomas Keating is known as "The leader within the Catholic world in the task of recovering our Christian contemplative heritage" Ewert H.
