Year Three, Day 157: "Me Too" United

I slept like a log last night!  Coughed and wheezed a little.  I was pleased to see that my bottle of NAC had arrived in the mail yesterday.

I am still researching natural methods of treating COPD.  I found this article which states:

"More research needs to be done, but some evidence suggests that supplements can help improve lung function if you have COPD, says Tanya Edwards, MD, medical director for the Center for Integrative Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
COPD is an inflammatory disease, and some vitamins and supplements are known to reduce inflammation, so that’s a good place to start, Dr. Edwards says."

And about the supplement NAC (N-acetylcysteine)

"NAC (N-acetylcysteine) is known to help clear mucus and has been looked at as a COPD supplement. It's an antioxidant available as a prescription drug and a dietary supplement.
According to a review of studies on its use, one showed that taking 600 mg twice a day for two months lessened secretions and exacerbations, but overall results have been more mixed. Again, Edwards believes that more research is needed, but she adds that NAC may help by thinning mucus. NAC is more than an antioxidant; it also stimulates the body’s production of antioxidants."

I find it interesting the COPD is an inflammatory disease.  I have often considered myself to be full of inflammation!

More research shall I do!

I spent the morning at Cascades Station with my daughter and Baby Gracie. Apparently she had a good night's sleep too! So I don't mind a bit that she fussed so much for me yesterday. Better that than keeping her poor mom up all night!
We walked in the sun with Baby Gracie in the stroller. We shared a London Fog from Starbucks. We looked at work clothes for my daughter. We looked at new rain boots for me.  Then we went out for a light sushi lunch, walked some more, shopped some more and ended with a bit of frozen yogurt!

Twas a wonderful day with the ladies. :)

I am at my library office, heading out soon teach piano lessons.

But after spending such a wonderful time with two of my favorite females, I feel the need to address the "Me Too" that is trending on social media.

When the allegations of rape and sexual assault against Harvey Weinstein were plastered all over the media recently, I couldn't help but remember my past.  All of my varying degrees of "me toos".  And think, "He is not the only one by far. Especially men of his generation".

And as I saw the "Me Too's" stack up all over Twitter and Facebook, I was saddened, but also comforted. I am not alone. And if we are talking about it in the open, finally, perhaps there is hope for the future. Hope for all the Baby Gracie's of the world.

And with all the divisive thinking and extreme political posts all over social media these past few years, so many of us are united.  United as victims in an unjust society. But united still.

United we stand!

I stand for the Me Too's!

And I hope there is not only justice, but healing of attitudes and behaviors of the predators.

On that note, I am off to teach children to play the piano.  God bless the children.  It hurts me that so many of us have been robbed of our innocence by selfish evil.

On another note, I do not care at this point to sift through my past. I have examined it. I have forgiven. I have moved on.  I hope to enjoy the rest of my days living in the moment, and loving as much as humanly possible.

And that is a better note to end on!

Happy Monday!

Talk to you tomorrow,

Love,

Zita

PS Today, day 121 of my hooping adventure, was a good hoop day! I am feeling more coordinated. And the music I chose for my video afterwards was fun! I think I am going to do more of the "hip-hop/rap" genre for my hooping. It seems to go with the beat!

Enjoy!

Year Four, Day 328: Success at Last!! This is What I Do

Hello My Long Lost Friends! Or, perhaps it was I who was lost? And now I think I am beginning to find myself!  Under layers of fat, and self loathing!  How's that for an opening line!  Or perhaps the title of a novel:  Layers of Fat and Self-Loathing! Today I stepped on the scale.  I am weighing myself every morning these days. I was shocked! I told my partner the scale must be broken!  Yesterday I weight 186. Today 185! I have been on a strict intermittent fast for the past 10 weeks. I have officially lost 12 pounds!  And the best news is I think I not only can stick to this way of eating, I am actually beginning to really enjoy it!  And look how far I've come! I've been writing since May 12, 2015.  Over 8 years now!  I know this blog post says Year Four, Day 328, but there have been many pauses in blogging. For instance, when I am not pleased with progress or simply have no words! I was 53 when I first began blogging. I am now 61. I honestly feel better than I did 8 years

Year Four, Day 335: "Crisis Fatigue"

Hello Friends! I have missed you! I have been so utterly exhausted and downright depressed, that I couldn't summon enough energy to even lift my fingers to this computer keyboard to write.  Apparently there is a mental disorder for people going through crises.  Crises such as pandemics, systemic racism, political division, unemployment, police brutality, civil unrest.... It's called "crisis fatigue". When humans are presented with a threat, adrenaline is released to give us quick energy. This is called the "fight or flight syndrome". But when threats are overwhelming, and perceivably continuous, like this year, it overwhelms the system. People can feel numb, depressed, anxious and irritable. Yup. That's me.  I guess I'm quite normal after all! I found an interesting article that describes crisis fatigue, especially in relation to current events.  But it doesn't really address how to take care of ourselves during these unsettling times!

Year Two, Day 313: Most Excited Am I!

I almost started today's blog with my standard, "Most tired am I" And I am. So tired. And ready for spring.  But tonight when I got home, my wonderful housemate told me that I had a package waiting for me on the counter.  So I ran in and found the book I had been waiting for: Open Mind, Open Heart , by Thomas Keating. Most excited am I! I put a bag of popcorn in the microwave, filled my water and was heading downstairs to open my new book - but I had to detour around the cat who had just killed and attempted to eat a spider. Good kitty! :) I ordered this book the day that I was inspired to turn my introversion into a positive. To use it as a stepping stone to a deeper relationship with God. To go up to the next level in my spiritual path. Thomas Keating is known as "The leader within the Catholic world in the task of recovering our Christian contemplative heritage" Ewert H.
