Day 96: Like a Boss!

Walking with my new backpack, like a boss!
I felt good all day today!  I got up at 5:00 a.m and cooled off the house, let the dog out, water the plants.  I even made a lunch for my son - My prepackaged specials!  He had to leave the house at 6:00 a.m.  this morning and has been saying he wants to eat healthier.

Then I did some stretches and lay down with the fan.  I read the news on my Kindle. I was so happy to see that they are predicting only upper 70's and RAIN for tomorrow. YAY!!

When I finally got out of bed, I did some good yoga stretches, read my bible and had some prayer time.  Then I made another batch of premade meals.  Today would be the last of the ones I made from Sunday, because I have been sharing with the kids.

This time I sauteed chicken breasts with the same spices as Sunday.  But I sauteed them whole instead of in chunks. Then I sliced them and divided them amongst the tupperware containers.  I also steamed some fresh broccoli and baby carrots and put those on top.  I washed a bag of wonderful red grapes and bagged them in individual snack bags. And I hardboiled 1/2 dozen eggs and cut some celery up into sticks.

I'm liking this!

For breakfast, I had the last of the omelette muffins, with some of the steamed broccoli, a cup of yogurt and some sliced bananas.

I had a rehearsal, taught some classes and accompanied a choir.  I am proud to say I did not suffer from hunger or cravings. I think the low fat, high protein, low carb, no wheat plan is agreeing with me!

I did some yoga during my break between classes and choir.  Practiced a bit of piano.

I have not been to the trail or the gym this week. It has been hot and muggy. And I have been feeling tired, sick and cranky.  But I feel like I'm coming out of it. Tomorrow I plan on hitting the trail for a good long walk.

Another thing I noticed is that my mind was relatively free of negative thoughts. I felt cheerful and balanced.

It has really helped to have my backpack. I am able to turn my walking to buses, students' homes and the music center into mini workouts. Oh, and speaking of which - on my break, after I ate and did some yoga, I walked around the block while talking to my mom on the phone.  This was a spontaneous act!  Often I will either go out to eat, or run to the store for a snack during my break.

I am starting to make these wise decisions without much forethought.

I must continue on this path. It seems to be working!

I can't wait to see what tomorrow holds. Bring it on!

Happy Thursday! :)

Year Four, Day 328: Success at Last!! This is What I Do

Hello My Long Lost Friends! Or, perhaps it was I who was lost? And now I think I am beginning to find myself!  Under layers of fat, and self loathing!  How's that for an opening line!  Or perhaps the title of a novel:  Layers of Fat and Self-Loathing! Today I stepped on the scale.  I am weighing myself every morning these days. I was shocked! I told my partner the scale must be broken!  Yesterday I weight 186. Today 185! I have been on a strict intermittent fast for the past 10 weeks. I have officially lost 12 pounds!  And the best news is I think I not only can stick to this way of eating, I am actually beginning to really enjoy it!  And look how far I've come! I've been writing since May 12, 2015.  Over 8 years now!  I know this blog post says Year Four, Day 328, but there have been many pauses in blogging. For instance, when I am not pleased with progress or simply have no words! I was 53 when I first began blogging. I am now 61. I honestly feel better than I did 8 years

Year Four, Day 335: "Crisis Fatigue"

Hello Friends! I have missed you! I have been so utterly exhausted and downright depressed, that I couldn't summon enough energy to even lift my fingers to this computer keyboard to write.  Apparently there is a mental disorder for people going through crises.  Crises such as pandemics, systemic racism, political division, unemployment, police brutality, civil unrest.... It's called "crisis fatigue". When humans are presented with a threat, adrenaline is released to give us quick energy. This is called the "fight or flight syndrome". But when threats are overwhelming, and perceivably continuous, like this year, it overwhelms the system. People can feel numb, depressed, anxious and irritable. Yup. That's me.  I guess I'm quite normal after all! I found an interesting article that describes crisis fatigue, especially in relation to current events.  But it doesn't really address how to take care of ourselves during these unsettling times!

Year Two, Day 313: Most Excited Am I!

I almost started today's blog with my standard, "Most tired am I" And I am. So tired. And ready for spring.  But tonight when I got home, my wonderful housemate told me that I had a package waiting for me on the counter.  So I ran in and found the book I had been waiting for: Open Mind, Open Heart , by Thomas Keating. Most excited am I! I put a bag of popcorn in the microwave, filled my water and was heading downstairs to open my new book - but I had to detour around the cat who had just killed and attempted to eat a spider. Good kitty! :) I ordered this book the day that I was inspired to turn my introversion into a positive. To use it as a stepping stone to a deeper relationship with God. To go up to the next level in my spiritual path. Thomas Keating is known as "The leader within the Catholic world in the task of recovering our Christian contemplative heritage" Ewert H.
